BRITISH AIRWAYS WORLD CARGO EXTENDS REACH IN INDIA
(10/11/2004)
British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has launched a scheduled trucking service in India. The trucking operation, comprising six, bi-directional, daily services, will enable BAWC to transport export and import freight throughout the country, strengthening its market presence countrywide. The services cover Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Cochin.
BAWC's focus on developing its freighter network has driven volume gains. The carrier's third longhaul freighter service was launched in September 2003 with the European shorthaul freighter service following a month later. BAWC's ongoing agreement with Korean Air has also led to capacity increases.
As well as extending BAWCs reach within India, the trucking operation also provides customers with a solution for shipping large volumes, dangerous goods, out-of-gauge equipment, cars and heavy freight, which until now has been limited by inland air routes. In addition, for regular shipments, BAWC can provide a dedicated vehicle directly to/from a customer's manufacturing facility.
Bookings are made with a BAWC road feeder service number and can be tracked online on the BAWC website. Some services are fitted with Global Positioning Satellite navigation enabling their progress to be tracked enroute.
BAWC aims to add more routes to the schedule later in the year.
